So the Golden Globes aren't exactly up to the overall fashion caliber of the Oscars, but there are still some pretty memorable ensembles. And not all of them in a good way.
Olivia Wilde and Rumer Willis both wore Reem Acra. First off, I LOVE Olivia Wilde's dress (I saw it in Reem Acra's bridal collection a few seasons ago and I fell in love with it and don't judge me), even though it was just featured on Gossip Girl and isn't exactly fresh (Penelope's two minions wore pink and blue versions to the Snowflake Ball). That said, I hate the way she styled it. That flower clasp belt is fairy princess overkill, and her hair looks flat and awkward. She needed a more dramatic hairstyle and makeup to keep the dress from wearing her. Now Rumer Willis isn't exactly the spitting image of her mother, but I actually really like her new red hair here, and her whole ensemble isn't offensive, like her outfits usually are. The belt doesn't quite go, and she needs to pull up the entire dress (her boobs are way too close to her navel for comfort) but this is the best I've ever seen Rumer Willis look.
Amy Adams looks FAB in Oscar de La Renta. It's black, but it's definitely not safe or basic. That dress is perfection, her hair and makeup are perfect, and I can't say anything else about her. I really like Amand Seyfreid's dress, but it is totally washing her out! Just one or two shades in either direction, and it would have been gorgeous! She does get props for hair and makeup, however.
After her rough year, Anne Hathaway can do no wrong. This Armani Prive dress fits her perfectly, is super flattering, and the color pops against her pale skin. The classic hair and makeup balance out her statement making dress, and she wears the dress, it doesn't wear her (which I feel like it might on someone else). She always gets it right. Blake Lively has a different take on the statement blue dress which I'm liking almost as much. The trail looks a little awkward, that giant slit up the side needs to go, and her dress isn't as well fitted as Anne Hathaway's, and isn't quite as flattering (but when is skintight satin ever flattering?) but I think her minimalist makeup and hair makeup for that. Her voluminous hair works perfectly with her body-con dress, I'm having serious hair envy right now, and any time Blake Lively's boobs are remotely covered (they're practically their own characters on Gossip Girl) is a serious plus.
Of course, someone had to pull out the crazy. Or rather, two someones. First off, both of them look like they maybe had decent hairdos, but then somehow on the way to the red carpet they got sucked into a wind tunnel. Why?!?! Second, those dresses? Drew Barrymore's dress would be decent if it wasn't dirty baby blue. Baby blue is bad enough, but dirty baby blue? I don't care if it's Galliano, it's a fail. And it took me a good thirty seconds to realize that Renee wasn't half naked. I think if you have to question if you look naked before you leave the house, it's just a no go.
