Trend-spotting for Fall: Sparkly High-waisted Minis

This isn't exactly the world's most groundbreaking trend this season, but sparkly/shiny high-waisted mini-skirts were all over the runways this season, in various lengths and shapes.

Rebecca Taylor, Balmain, Jasmine Di Milo

Jenni Kayne, Abaete, Erin Fetherston

I have to say that this is one of my favorite trends. It works for any occasion (school, brunch, parties, dinner, etc, etc, etc) and for any body type. A straighter, more pencil-esque skirt flatters existing curves, and a more a-line fit adds curves to a smaller frame or balances out broad shoulders. These skirts look chic and expensive, but don't have to empty your wallet. I found a vintage Chanel black high-waisted mini at a garage sale for $2.50 (best. day. ever). American Apparel makes a pretty decent version as well.

One of the things that really makes this look is the styling. Combining an embellished skirt with a drapey tee (like at Balmain) or adorable cami, and topping it off with a slouchy cardigan or boyfriend blazer hits the balance between sexy, effortless, and chic.
