More trend-spotting! There were lots of tiered ruffles on the Fall runways. Some tiers were barely ruched, some were extremely ruched, but the overall look with layers of slightly gathered tiers. They add just the right amount of volume, have great movement, and are the just right amount of romantic.
Badgley Mischka, Jill Stuart, Marchesa
Emporio Armani, Christoper Kane, Nathan Jenden
Naeem Khan, Jason Wu, Luisa Beccaria
I know the ruffles at Armani are really cascading and not tiered, but it's close enough. The thing with ruffles is that they're super girly and add a sense of drama to an outfit that makes them perfect for floor-length gowns (I love the sequin dipped tiers at Marchesa!) but on a short dress like at Nathan Jenden or Jill Stuart, tiered ruffles can become completely day-appropriate. Style with a girly, ruffly dress with a blazer, to contrast the floaty nature of the dress, or with a boyfriend cardigan, to offset the girliness, and some tough sandals or heels to ground the look.
